Their Origin Story

The business started the way a lot of good ideas do, in a backyard conversation between two neighbors who had been friends for twenty years. Both women had already been doing informal closet editing for friends, helping women they knew make sense of what they owned. Both had also worked in retail, watching customer after customer walk in with no real idea what they needed, if anything at all.

That combination, the friendly editing on the side and the front-row seat to how confused shopping had become for so many women, made the gap obvious. There was a real need for a formal service that gave women a new way of looking at their own closets and taught them how to restyle what they already had, rather than simply buy more. Susan Adkins and Laura Kay built Edit & Elevate to fill it.

Both founders describe an almost physical love of the work itself, an adrenaline that comes from styling a room full of outfits without spending a dollar. Their personal styles differ, but their method is shared: continuously editing what works for their current stage of life, letting go of what belongs to the past, and staying willing to experiment with new ideas and trends across women of every age.
